Student of the week series 1.4

Can you introduce yourself ?

Hi I’m Halimat Oladimeji, a final year law student and the Vice President of the LSS.

Are you aware you were going to be the student of the week and how do you feel about it ?

I was honestly surprised as it wasn’t expected but I feel honored.

It's not easy being a 500 level student and also the vice president of a huge association like the LSS, how do you handle the pressure ?

Lol it isn’t. I really just try to find a balance between school and the LSS making sure that I prioritize my studies without neglecting my official duties.

With the law week only a few days to go, what do you think the Student Society should expect from this administration Law week ?

I think the student society should expect lots of fun and entertainment as the week is going to be an avenue to relax and unwind from academic pressure.

A source reported that you want this law week to be very special and unique from all the rest from the past, do you have something in mind that you are gonna use to achieve that objective ?

Honestly, there’s been a lot of efforts from the executives and law week committee in ensuring that this law week is special and different from the rest. Though there’s been some minor setbacks, we are going to try all our best to ensure that most members of the student body have a pleasant experience this week.

You are not just planning the Law week but last week you were been nominated for the Student of the year, how do you feel being nominated for such a huge category ?

I genuinely feel honored. It makes me glad to know that my efforts even the little ones are observed and appreciated.

What do you think you can say inspired you to have achieved what you have achieved so far ?

I honestly don’t think I’ve achieved a lot, but I’m inspired by the need for growth and change for myself and those around me.

And finally do you have any advice to the Student Society and especially for the Law week ?

To the student body, my advice to us all is to be easy with ourselves and each other and to appreciate the little things. And for the Law week, let’s all relax and have fun!

Thank you for taking your time for this interview it was really appreciated๐Ÿค๐Ÿป๐ŸŒน

Student of the week series 1.3

LAWHUI STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Ayinla Muhammed Awwal
100 Level

Introduce yourself ?

I am Ayinla Muhammad Awwal, a Justician, a common and islamic law student, 100 Level.

How do you feel being the student of the week ?

It’s enticing, i feel good, it’s really an honor.

How did you feel being the student of the week as 100 Level Student so far so soon ?

๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚What did you mean so far so soon, I thought we are all student and we all deserve what is meant for us, so it doesn’t matter if am in 100Lvl. So being the student of the week i think it’s because of my participation at the Equity Chambers mega combo event, I think I performed well the winner knows I trashed him, but for some reasons I couldn’t be the winner. People really knew I tried and I deserve to be the winner cos I felt I trashed the winner in the Oratory contest.

So, the competition you took 2nd position representing Justice Chamber.s You said you felt you trashed the winner, Ajibola Ibrahim representing the Human Rights chambers because of some certain reasons. How do you mean ?

Yes, Firstly to be involved in a thing you must be informed about it, it’s my first time in Oratory Contest. I know i didn’t utilize my time and i wasn’t well informed that I could chip in my conclusions at the ring of the time lapse. My prep time for the contest was the proposed 5minutes until the unforeseen circumstances that make the organisers to reduce it to 3 minutes. I feel like it’s the concluding part that got me down. However, for me to be acknowledged as an 100 level students amidst Learned seniors. it’s a great honour.

After the competition people were praising you for your effort and see you as the next rated and like star is born how did you feel about that ?

It’s a great thing, the next rated...๐Ÿค” I felt have being giving birth twice first April 17 and also on that Wednesday ๐Ÿ˜†... I never thought I can go up there and talk. People were coming to me the likes of Oyeleso saying he would like to face me one day and the 500lvl class rep gave me 1K . I have also gotten many other influences and offer. it’s really a great thing and I wish more to come.

It seems Ajibola Ibrahim is the one to beat, do you think you will be the one to do that ?

know I can and I will, I already know my strength and I know what to do to improve myself, I will like to beat the PRO in the subsequent event, I almost achieve that and it was my first time going against him so definitely I know I can do it.

What is the difference between you in the first semester and now. You aren’t active or noticeable in first semester what do you think changes between these few months ?

I’m actually a very social person, I relate with almost everyone in first semester. It’s my first time here so I’m just kind of settling in not talking with everyone, trying to observe the environment but now i realize I’ve to be myself and be the social person I am, also I got influence with the people around me, I walk with the LSS President people know that and it’s also part of the thing that I think contributed to my popularity, everyone talks to president and I’m always with him, people will be like who is this person with you and I also come out when necessary. I came out during the inter-chambers debate, I also went to Unilawrin Justice Chambers, MLS Policy contest & now the Equity Chambers Mega Combo Events which  I feel contributed to my popularity a lot.

Like you said People have seen you with the President what’s your connection with him ?

My connection with the LSS President wasn’t for popularity. I see him as guiding light ori say a mentor, he is the president, very welcoming person and he’s approachable, It’s my first year and I feel it would be a great opportunity learning from him. Simply put, I’m just trying to be close to people that are ahead of me & learning from them.

Can we expect you to be part of the LSS administration in the nearest future ?

It all depend there are a lot of criteria so I’m not sure yet but it’s not bad being part of the LSS administration, if I will be part you will find out and if I will not be part you will also find out.

Any parting words ?

Like I said earlier, it’s an honour to be the student of the week. A big accolades to the LSS administration, more power to your elbow. Thank you LSS

Truth by Salihu Mustapha Saidu

The truth about life,

Is that it is complicated,

Until you make sense of it.

The thing about about adversity,

Is that it is temporary,

Though it consumes you right now,

But in time it fades away.

One thing about silence,

Is that it consumes from within,

But sometimes saying nothing

Says the most.

One thing about  trauma

Is that it destroys you

And makes you stronger.

The thing about the sun,

Is that it will always rise tommorow.

The thing about assistance,

Is that its always close at sight

When you look closer,

And if you can't find one,

My heart is an ocean.

One thing about love,

Is that it doesn't come easy,

But when it does it is unconditional.

One thing about life

Is that you cant fully feel its

Sensation until you let someone know.

Student of the week series 1.2

 LAWHUI STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Abduljalal Aliyu Marafa
500 Level

Introduce yourself ?

(Bursts into laughter) I am Abduljalal Aliyu marafa a 500 level student, I love sports, basically I am just  a simple guy that can be approached anytime anyday.

How do you feel being the LAWHUI student of the week ?

Surprised!!! I didn’t expect that or see it coming cause I feel there are students that are way better but quite privileged to be the student of the week.

(Cuts in)

The progress of NAMLAS under your leadership warrants you been the student of the week. How has the programs instituted by the executives influence you and the student of the faculty ?

Firstly, all thanks to Allah the Most Gracious, the Merciful.

Secondly, i appreciate all the NAMLAS excutives, without them this progress would not have happened and I give kudos to them all. Especially for been with me through the whole process without them nothing would have been possible. We certainly came, saw & conquered together now.

Thirdly, our greatest appreciation to the lecturers & students of the faculty for the full cooperation, support and efforts. Once again my regards to the executive, they are the real MVP’S without them nothing.

Lastly, I believe the NAMLAS programs have positively impact the Muslim law students of the faculty who wholeheartedly support and turn out for our events so as the executives and other representative of the Association.

Wow! Your relationship with your Excos must have be a great one, so what are the future plans from NAMLAS ?

Yes it is. We have more to offer during and after Ramadan just wait and see.

What have you learnt from been the NAMLAS Amir ?

Before the appointment as the NAMLAS Amir, I was viewed as a bad guy or sort of I guess, fortunately I became the Amir, I never expected it guess I have some qualities which I myself never saw which I guess was seen by others, especially leadership skills. One thing I have learnt is never to underestimate or misuse any opportunity. But impact from it.

You have two months left as a student what are the lesson you have gotten in the last 5 years as a student ?

Been resilient is key you must be strong, people sometimes would try to make you down emotionally & morally, I just say be yourself, keep been truthful to yourself, keep doing what makes you happy, it would  make you happy.

When I resumed this faculty, I never wanted to study law, But then I felt what’s in this law now I am in 500level, which is one great achievement, just want to make my parents proud for believing in me cause no one did even I didn’t believe in myself at some point that I can study law but my dad really come through.

What is that fond memory that still sticks to you in the last five years ?

The Julius Okojie hostel (general hysteric laughter) I miss my guys the memories we created, the first graduated set, the football, the cooking, those memories stick though they can’t be brought back, the hostel is not like how it used to be. My time in the hostel definitely is one of my fond memories.

What has been your inspiration in the faculty ?

To make my parents proud most importantly my dad. I’m  just that normal guy trying to achieve great things in life, But overall for the interest of myself and my dad.

What would you tell anyone coming to atere based on your experience has a student, student politician, and sportsman ?

Don’t forget your primary objective and do play hard as much as you read. you have to a complete human being. you can’t be reading all time.

So do you regard yourself as ever been a serious student during your time ?

I can never be called a serious student; I call myself just that normal student like anyone. And I try to be serious.

What do you think would be your legacy when you graduate ?

Football mehn pray it never dies, Also NAMLAS, the pace we have set forth. We want it to keep growing no stopping and support one another Muslim and non Muslim of the faculty.

Any parting words ?

Omoooooo this school no be play… Atereee
